INTERVIEW: Gillian Robson of Tote-allybags

Posted by: Alexis Forsyth on: June 9, 2011

Tote-allybags is a North East based online boutique selling handbags, jewellery, shoes and accessories sourced from all over the world.

Stocking top brands like Irregular Choice, Red or Dead and Storm, it’s your one stop shop for high fashion items inspired by the latest catwalk and designer trends.

I chat to the woman behind the venture, Gillian Robson.

Where did the name Tote-allybags come from?

It came after weeks of trying to decide what sort of name to have. Friends and family were coming up with different suggestions, but I thought of it after visiting a supplier in Manchester where I purchased various tote bags as my first order.

Describe the typical Tote-allybags customer.

There’s no typical Tote-allybags customer, each and every one is different. We have customers of all ages in the UK and internationally. One of our recent customers was a 76-year-old lady who bought a Fiorelli cuff bangle for herself – a stylish grandma!

How do you go about sourcing products?

We source products from all over the globe. We carry out a lot of research online and visit as many suppliers as possible to ensure the products are of a high quality as well as on trend.

Tell me more about the Tote-allybags party.

It’s a great night in which entails the host getting friends, family and neighbours together. They usually put out a few nibbles and drinks and we arrive an hour before the guests arrive to set everything up. We don’t give a sales pitch and there is never any pressure to buy. There’s nothing more off-putting than someone trying to sell you something you don’t want or like! The host also receives a free gift for hosting the party and this can be any item from our range.

What’s been your bestsellers in recent months?

The Irregular Choice little bow peep bag, the Anne Michelle black and gold stiletto shoes and our new blue pyramid ring have been the most popular in the past month.

What’s your favourite item from your collection?

I like the starburst flower ring as it’s very unusual and so eye-catching, although I do love the blue pyramid ring too!

Have you got any upcoming events over the summer?

The next event we are attending is Ovingham Goose Fayre on Saturday 18th June where we will be showcasing our new collection. We’re looking at having a regular stand every Saturday at Alnwick market starting in July – dates will be posted on our website soon.

Anything else you’d like to mention?

We are offering free UK p&p for the next three months and will also be stocking Zandra Rhodes handbags in the next few weeks, all at great prices.
